Abstract

Background: Advanced care planning is a type of care that addresses the needs and preferences of patients with life-threatening illnesses, and the implementation of this care approach in our country is expected to be challenging. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the challenges of advanced care planning for patients with life-threatening illnesses near the end of life from the perspective of healthcare providers.
Methods: The present study is a qualitative study conducted using a content analysis approach in Iran in 2024. Participants were 11 care providers. MAXQDA 2018 software was used for data management.
Results: The main category of this study was explained as "redesign of infrastructures from scratch”, which included 5 categories.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, there is not enough ability and capacity to implement ACP. Therefore, to apply this process while redesigning the health system, it is necessary to create infrastructure through actions such as public awareness and resolve moral and legal conflicts, which were identified in this study.
