Abstract
Background: Refugees have complex healthcare needs that must be addressed. Access to care is an important aspect of refugee health, but many refugees around the world have limited access to basic health care. This study aimed to provide a primary healthcare delivery model for Afghan refugees in Iran.
Methods: This research is part of a larger study that used a mixed design. The results of the previous two phases (Afghan refugees’ experiences with primary health care; and the experiences, barriers, and facilitators of healthcare delivery to Afghan refugees from the perspective of providers and managers) were used to develop an initial healthcare delivery model. Then, the initial model was finalized using the Delphi technique.
Results: The proposed healthcare delivery model addresses the experiences, opportunities, and challenges of primary healthcare delivery to Afghan refugees in Iran. This model was approved after validation.
Conclusion: The proposed model can serve as a practical guide for primary healthcare delivery to refugees. Decision-makers can consider the results of this study in planning for refugees to Iran and other countries with a similar structure.
